FERIEPARADIS ELLER HELVETE PÅ JORD?
Okey, vi må snakke litt om Dubai.
Kritikken hagler mot flyselskapet Norwegian, og mot en håndfull influencere som er på badeferie i Dubai. På Norwegian sin regning, vel å merke. Hashtag sponsa.
Spørs hvor avslappende denne badeferien har vært, for den sponsede reisen har vekket mange reaksjoner. Amnesty International har gått hardt ut mot at Norwegian bruker influencerne i promotering av Dubai, og mot influencerne som setter Instagram-filter på en destinasjon som systematisk begår grove menneskerettighetsbrudd.
For å være helt ærlig, så er jeg glad for hele dette kaoset. Hadde ikke influencerne reist til Dubai, og hadde ikke Amnesty og «mannen i gata» reagert så kraftig, så hadde det vært stor sannsynlighet for at jeg selv hadde reist tilbake til Dubai i løpet av 2019. Destinasjonen står på to do-lista. Vel, den er strøket ut nå.
Amnesty International fikk nå mulighet til å lære meg at:
- Kvinner blir systematisk diskriminert i lovverket og i praksis.
- Homofili kan straffes med opptil 10 års fengsel.
- Migrantarbeidere som utgjør 90% av arbeidsstyrken blir utsatt for overgrep.
- Ytringsfriheten blir ikke respektert.
- Mange rettsprosesser er urettferdig og tortur blir brukt for å presse frem tilståelser.
- Emiratene står bak grove krigsforbrytelser i Jemen.
- Anmelder du voldtekt risikerer du å bli fengslet for sex utenfor ekteskap.
Jeg har vært turist i Dubai ved to anledninger, og jeg elsket det. Klimaet, shoppingen, alt man kan finne på, maten, hvor moderne og luksuriøst alt føles. Og at både fly og hotell er ganske rimelig. Skal dog sies at det er svindyrt å leve der. Du må punge ut med femti norske kroner for en liten boks med Cola Zero, så det er kanskje ikke så rart at hotellet tilbyr en okey overnattingspris.
Klart jeg har fått med meg at kvinner må dekke seg til. Og tenkt at kvinner undertrykkes. Jeg ble selv slut shamet av en arabisk familie da jeg tok hotellheisen opp fra bassenget en gang, kun iført bikini og en gjennomsiktig strandkjole. Men jeg har ikke satt meg noe mer inn i det. Bare tenkt at folk er jævlige og har vrangforestillinger – men det har de mange steder i verden.
Uansett: Etter å ha lest og hørt hva Amnesty har å si, har jeg ikke litt lyst til å reise tilbake til Dubai. Jeg vil ikke være et sted hvor jeg kan havne i fengsel for å kysse min egen kjæreste. Hvor venner av meg (som er homofile) kan bli sittende ti år i fengsel eller i verste fall bli drept. Eller et sted hvor mennesket som serverer meg på restaurant, er en fange som jobber i bytte mot kost og losji. Som er blitt lurt til Dubai, fått inndratt passet, og nå ikke har råd til å rømme hjem igjen. Hvor godt smaker maten da?
Nå har jeg altså bestemt meg for å ikke reise tilbake til Dubai, det må i såfall skje noen store forandringer der først.
Men dette blir et dilemma for meg. Og sikkert for mange andre også. Skal vi boikotte alle land og stater som bryter med menneskerettigheter? Alle land som dømmer mennesker til dødsstraff? Eller bare de som er ekstra ille? Hvor er det ekstra ille?
Jeg kjenner det blir vanskelig for meg å bedømme. Og så føler jeg generelt at verden er et jævlig sted, etter å ha brukt noen timer på Amnesty sin nettside.
Vi som har mange følgere/lesere og som inspirerer andre med reisetips, har nok et ekstra ansvar her. Ingen tvil om det. Så i tillegg til å ha lært mye om hva som foregår i Dubai, har jeg lært at jeg kan gå inn HER og lese meg opp før jeg booker en reise. Jeg kommer nok ikke til å gjøre alt riktig, men å bli bevisst er et steg i riktig retning ♥
Jeg er litt nysgjerrig på hvordan du tenker når du skal ut og reise? Setter du deg inn i hvordan destinasjonen forholder seg til ytringsfrihet, dødsstraff, seksualitet, tortur og så videre?

Utrolig bra innlegg! Godt å se at noen har litt selvinnsikt og evne til å se lenger enn egen nesetipp, og ta selvkritikk/innrømme at man har lært noe nytt.
Jeg har lest at noen skriver at jævlige ting skjer over alt, kan man liksom ikke reise noe sted da? Jo – jeg synes det holder med å boikotte land hvor det er myndighetene selv som står for overgrepene mot sivilbefolkningen.
Tusen takk. Det jeg sliter litt med her, er dødsstraff. Og feks rettigheter til selvbestemt abort. Det er jo så MANGE steder som jeg har tenkt er up to date, som ikke henger med på disse områdene??
Hvis du skal begynne å lese angående de fleste land, så er det ikke akkurat mange land du kan reise til lenger. Kypros som du skrøyt så langt opp i skyene, er ikke akkurat så bra der heller dessverre. Dårlig arbeidsforhold osvosv, som vi turister ikke ser.
Jeg har aldri vært i Kypros, og aldri nevnt stedet med et eneste ord.
Jeg er en av de som syns Dubai ser helt fantastisk ut, på bilder vel og merke. Men når forholdene for befolkingen der er som det er så frister det ikke i det hele tatt å dra dit.
Jeg har også vært i feks Kenya, der er det også ulovlig å være homofil, men dit dro jeg ikke på ferie. Så føler litt på at jeg kan dra til «kjipe» land så lenge det ikke er for ferie. Andre folk skal få slippe å jobbe som slaver for at jeg skal late meg ved bassenget, det vil jeg heller gjøre der folk som bor og jobber der har det bra.
Jeg har også vært i Kenya – dog i samarbeid med Plan Norge. Forferdelig at myndighetene i det hele tatt skal bry seg i befolkningen sin seksualitet…
Flott at du bruker din plattform til å belyse dette:) Det jeg synes er vanskelig oppi denne smørja av en diskusjon er at de bloggerne som nå er/ har vært i Dubai sier de er «der for å kjempe» når kritikken startet å hagle. Hva da kjempe? Drikke vin og posere? På «lukket avdeling» i mangel på bedre beskrivelse.. de beveger seg jo kun i den sonen av Dubai de rikeste lever. Og det vrir seg i magen når et land som undertrykker og har et råttent regime blir vist frem som livets høydepunkt. Og nei, man kan ikke sikre seg og kun reise til land som er «gode», men man kan unngå å promotere land som IKKE er det med solskinnsbilder og shopping.
Og når negativ kritikk kommer inn på Facebook, blogg og Instagram slettes disse kommentarene i full fart slik at reklameinnlegg og instagramposter blir misvisende for «kunden». DA bruker man makten sin råttent. Når «kunden» kun får lese og se kommenter som «å du er så pen/ elsker antrekket» osv osv…det synes jeg er verst med dette. Da misbruker de sin makt og maler et bilde som ikke er greit. Bloggere på sponset tur tilsynelatende ikke oppdatert om hvordan 90% av innbyggerne i landet de besøker lever.
Helt enig i at det ikke er okey. De er åpenbart ikke på den reisen for å ta noen kamp, bedre å bare være ærlig om at man ikke satt med kunnskapen.
Jeg syns det er en stor forskjell på land hvor menneskerettighetsbrudd skjer på grunn av fattigdom (å gjøre alt riktig er scindyrt, og selv Norge klarer ikke å følge alle menneskerettighetene 100%). Dubai er annerledes fordi de har alle forutsetningene til å kunne tilby innbyggerne et verdig liv, de har rikdom + høy utdanning. Likevel opprettholder de et oligarki hvor alle pengene går til toppen. Mange trekker frem at det er en annen kultur, men dette er heller ikke helt riktig. Dubai ble påbegynt på 50-tallet og er konstruert som et ferieparadis, og på bekostning av de lavere klasser (og kvinner). Det er altså ikke en «kultur» man besøker når man drar til turistområdene i Dubai. Det er falskt. Jeg syns ikke nødvendigvis det er feil å dra til Dubai, og det er et valg man må ta selv. Men jeg syns det er viktig å være opplyst og kunnskapssøkende. Hovedproblemet er selvfølgelig at turen var sponset, som innebærer visse forventninger fra annonsør, som vi (lesere – ofte unge folk) ikke blir opplyst om. Verst av alt er at influenserne ikke er åpne for kritikk. Tøft av deg å vise selvinnsikt. Stå på!

Godt og reflektert skrevet! Og gode spørsmål. Det er mange som ikke tenker på at flere stater i USA har dødsstraff, bl.a. New York (tillater dødsstraff på fanger ned til 16 år), California og Florida – mange nordmenn som drar dit på ferie ….
Bra at du tar opp sånne teamer! Jeg føler at det er vanskelig dog å dømme bloggere eller «vanlige» folk for å reise til Dubai. Der det finnes konsumering, finner du alltid en bakside. Sånn er det alltid. Man kan ikke gjøre noe rett i dag egentlig, om man er en vanlig vestlig konsument. Derfor synes jeg at det blir litt feil å dømme noen for hva de gjør, når man gjør så mye feil selv. Om man kjøper elbil for eksempel, så er man med på å støtte forferdelige arbeidsforhold i Kongo der man produserer kobolt til batteriet. Man tror jo at man gjør noe bra for miljøet, men så er man med på å støtte umenneskelige arbeidsforhold. Jeg tenker at man burde heller tenke på hva man selv kan gjøre for å bidra til en mer sunn konsumering, som igjen kan føre til sunnere forhold i for eksempel restaurantbransjen i turistmekkaer eller i klesproduksjonen av en kjedebutikk. Du var/er jo selv blitt veldig flink til å ikke handle like mye klær, noe jeg selv prøver å gjøre. Før kunne jeg kjøpe en ny topp på Gina Tricot eller Bik Bok hver gang det skjedde noe, for det er jo så billig. Det er jo ikke en menneskerett å ha 58 engangspolyester topper i skapet, sponset eller ei. Men nå sporer jeg ut. Det jeg ville få fram er at man kanskje burde være mer innovervendt hva angår forandringer og forbedringer. Det er selvsagt veldig bra å selv stå for at man ikke skal reise til Dubai, men jeg vil ikke dømme de som gjør det heller. Jeg kan heller gå å pakke ned polyestersamligen min og gi den til Fretex.
Så sant, det er umulig å gjøre alt rett.
Veldig bra at du skriver om dette, Ida! Jeg har selv tenkt en del på dette – hvor er det egentlig innafor å reise..? Jeg skal innrømme at jeg vitende om problemene har reist til feks Nicaragua (en av verdens strengeste abortlover), Namibia (kriminaliserer homofili) og Myanmar (militærdiktatur, riktig nok før de siste årenes grusomheter). Desverre er det vanskelig å holde stien helt ren om man vil oppdage verden, men denne saken har fått meg til å reflektere litt mer – kanskje man skal være enda mer bevisst. Men man kan og ta aktive valg om man reiser til rødlistede land – feks kan man gjøre researchen i forkant slik at man er kjent med problematikken, og på bakgrunn av dette ta mer riktige valg. Vi lærte oss feks hvordan vi skulle velge hoteller, turoperatører osv for å sikre at inntekten gikk til lokalbefolkning og ikke regimet i Myanmar. Håper din og andre ansvarlige bloggeres fokus kan få flere til å åpne øynene for en del ferieparadisers bakside 🙂
Dette liker jeg! Det er noen «influencere» som ikke evner å ta til seg kritikk. Forhåpentligvis leser de dette innlegget og skjønner hvor ståa er. Selv har jeg aldri forstått tiltrekningen til Dubai, det er en ørken hvor ALT er falskt. Jeg trives godt med å feriere i USA, men selv det sliter jeg med nå, med tanke på den ustabile politikken som driver landet for øyeblikket.
Synes det er supert at du tar stilling til dette i denne kampen. Og her viser du enorm ydmykhet!
Jeg har selv vært i Dubai, og egentlig visst litt at forholdene er som de er, men fortrengt det siden jeg ikke har erfart eller sett det. Jeg hadde bare positive opplevelser til Dubai-reisen. Og selv om denne infoen ikke nødvendigvis er helt ny, trengs det en påminnelse! At det fremeles er slik, selv om ikke turistlivet gjenspeiler det. Jeg tror ikke nødvendigvis å boikotte landet er løsningen, men jeg tror vi trenger diskusjonen, og reflektere litt mer over valgene vi tar, også når det kommer til reisemål.

Hei, synes du reflekterer godt rundt Dubai! Jeg var selv i Dubai i fjor. Vel vitende om alle menneskerettighetsbrudd. Jeg dro. Jeg har slitt litt med det i etterkant, for blant venner er jeg den som snakker høyest om rettigheter. Jeg dro fordi foreldrene mine skulle på familieferie dit med flere andre, og ville ha meg med. Mamma har alltid hatt lyst til å dra dit, og jeg kunne opplyst henne om alt det fæle som skjer og gitt henne dårlig samvittighet for at vi dro dit. Men jeg gjorde ikke det. Jeg vet ikke om det var rett eller galt av meg? Men jeg har dratt til USA når de praktiserer dødsstraff, vi skulle til Tyrkia hvor pressefriheten er sterkt truet, vi har vært i India hvor kvinner og andre grupper i samfunnet systematisk undertrykkes. Jeg har dratt til flere land, som ikke turist og. Så den frustrasjonen du kjenner på ang. hvilke land skal man dra til da – den kjenner jeg godt. Bare at jeg har vært klar over det mens jeg har vært i landene. Jeg drar aldri på ferie for å late meg ved bassenget, men Dubaituren er ferien som kommer nærmest en ferie hvor det var flest late dager. Det var jo rett og slett mangel på kultur der, og gir meg egentlig ikke mersmak. Men kan jeg forsvare at jeg har uendelig lyst til å dra til Marrakech, Egypt, Kina og Ungarn, med reiselyst?
Jeg synes det er flott at du faktisk er ærlig når det kommer til dette temaet og ikke er bastant. Det er flott å se at du som oss alle andre ikke alltid sitter på svaret.
Jeg hadde ikke dratt til Dubai om jeg så fikk betalt for det! Den innstillingen har jeg hatt i veldig mange år og har blitt like forferdet og oppgitt hver gang en blogger skriver om hvor fantaaaastisk fint det er i Dubai. Mange influencere har ikke engang klart å fullføre vgs så man kan kanskje ikke forvente at de besitter eller selv kan tilegne seg kunnskap om at det fancy hotellet de bor på er bygget av slaver, men likevel… Det er alltid noen i kommentarfelt som påpeker det, men de blir bare ignorert (eller slettet). Det svares kun på «åh så lekker bikini»-kommentarer. Veldig bra at du skriver om det, håper at mange får en vekker når de leser innlegget ditt! Drar ikke til andre verstingland heller, men synes Dubai er ekstra ille pga at de markedsfører seg hardt som veldig vestlige og moderne, men i virkeligheten er de minst like ille som Iran og Saudi-Arabia. Dubai er et drittland, rett og slett.
Ja, jeg må dessverre tenke over det. Jeg er selv bifil og mitt andre hjemland er Russland, heldigvis er jeg født i Norge, og har bodd her hele livet, men jeg har familie i Russland, så jeg får høre hvordan det egentlig er der og ikke glansbildet vi får presentert, så jeg må tenke over om jeg er villig til å risikere min egen sikkerhet for å reise hjem, foreløpig tør jeg ikke, selv om jeg kan søke om to statsborgerskap og være helt sikker på at jeg kommer meg hjem igjen til Norge, men jeg risikerer det ikke, så foreløpig tør jeg altså ikke å reise hjem til det andre landet mitt, det er jo helt latterlig, men sånn har det blitt.. Utrolig glad for at du Ida tar et standpunkt og ikke velger å reise til Dubai, nå tenkte jeg vel egentlig at du er den mest fornuftige og oppegående bloggeren vi har i Norge, så ville blitt overrasket om du ikke leste deg opp og tok et skikkelig standpunkt, man reiser ikke til et land som så systematisk bryter menneskerettigheter og hvor man vet hvor jævlige forhold det er. Litt som med meg og Russland, ja det er kanskje rart, men slutter folk å reise så må disse landene aktivt gjøre noe for å endre på det som Amnesty hele tiden påpeker som jævlige brudd på menneskerettigheter, helt enkelt. Overhodet ikke. Som du kanskje kan se ut i fra spørsmålet i innlegget, så vil jeg høre med de som leser bloggen min hvilke tanker de gjør seg rundt dette. Jeg svarer aldri på mediehenvendelser og stiller aldri opp på noe som helst, nettopp fordi jeg kun vil eksistere i mitt eget univers.
Syns de ser ut som du prøver å forsvare reisen din i etterkant når de ble mediastyr rundt deg å andre som tar slike turer…
Du om noen burde lest på om det innen du reiste å takket ja, iaf fått me deg noe om hvordan det er der etter alle år som det vart slik. ( ikke si att du ikke har det, du lever ikke med skylapper foran ansiktet vel? ) du som bor foran pc.

Jeg forsvarer ikke politikken Dubai fører , men synes samtidig man skal respektere at noen ønsker å feriere der. Jeg var i Dubai i fjor, og hadde en flott ferie, men vi fikk også noen ubehagelige spørsmål i forbindelse med at vi la ferien til Dubai . Det at men ønsker å oppleve Dubai , betyr ikke at man støtter det som foregår . Samtidig synes jeg det er viktig å være bevisst på politikken og reflektere litt rundt det, hvis man velger å feriere en slik plass 🙂
JO! Det er akurat det du gjør. Du forsvarer politikken i Dubai. Du gir jo de hensynsløse folkene enda mer penger, og enda mer grunn til å utnytte de svakerestilte! Hvordan tror du det kan stoppe? Jo, ved at de ikke tjener penger på det,såklart!

Ikkje alle steder er som Norge,men heldigvis ikkje alle er så jøvlig som Dubai heller.
Eg tenker at før man boikotter alle land man kan besøke kan man boikotte varer
– avokado fra Chile som gjør at folk går uten drikkevann fordi avokado trenger mer vann enn dyr og folk gjør
Alle produkter som selges i China testes på dyr fordi ingen produkter utenfra selges i Kina uten at det testest på dyr først.
Så selvom merkene ikkje tester på dyr i utgangspunktet så det faktisk at de vil selge i Kina betyr at de ser gjennom fingrene på det de sier er krav til testing…gi f i å selge der det er krav til testing da vel……
Bry deg om miljøet mens du er hjemme. bruke vaskemiddel og oppvaskemiddel og annen rengjøringsmiddel som er bra for miljøet og ikkje skadelig. Livet består tross alt av flere hverdager enn av ferier og gjør man mer i hverdagen så er det kanskje ikkje så aller verst om man gjør ting i ferier som ikkje er best -som å fly bla.
Spania, Hellas og flere steder i Asia er steder der de behandler dyr fælt. Spania sku en tro av litt mer opplyst,men der er tyrefekting og tyrebrenning -ja du leste rett , helt akseptert underholdning. Samme med jakthunder som blir drept etter endt sesong. Det er helt forferdelig at i Spania alene dreper de ca 50 000 på EN DAG eller rundt 150 000 på årsbasis.
Støtt hundesheltere i de ulike landene, det er mye en kan gjøre hver dag små ting som utgjør så mye på sikt -man trenger ikkje droppe alle land som reisemål,men man kan velge hva er viktig for en, hva ligger hjertet nermest og så velge de tingene som betyr mest

Jeg vil ikke sponse et land som er bygget opp av slaver. Å tenke på at alt det fine og flotte der er bygget av fremmedarbeidere som lever under forferdelige vilkår – OG de vil fortsette sånn så lenge det er etterspørsel etter det, så lenge folk fortsetter reise ned dit.
Var der på en mellomlanding en gang, dødsfint men aldri igjen etter å ha lært mere om hvordan landet er bygd opp. (For ikke glemme menneskerettigheter og alt).

Går ikke direkte inn å leser på land som regel før en tur men prøver å holde meg oppdatert og snakke om de «dårlige sidene» også. Har fx bodd et par år i Kina, som også kan se veldig fint og flott ut på utsiden men har ENORMT mange negative sider som det er viktig vi kjemper for og belyser.

Så flott at du skriver om dette, og har bestemt deg for å ikke reise tilbake. Jeg tenker at det er helt greit å ikke vite, men noen av disse influenserne har fått kritikk for å reise på sponset tur til Dubai før (Morten Hegseth skrev kronikk om dette allerede i 2017). Da visste de sannsynligvis om forholdene der nede denne gangen, og det synes jeg blir noe annet – de burde ikke ha reist. Å påstå at man er der for å «kjempe og bygge broer» i etterkant, synes jeg også blir for dumt.
Jeg tenker at det er forskjell på å reise dit på ferie privat, og å reise dit på sponset tur. Da reklamerer man for stedet, og jeg mener det følger et helt annet ansvar med det. Det som likevel provoserer meg mest med denne saken, er den fraværende evnen til å ta selvkritikk. All kritikk er ikke mobbing eller hate, og jeg mener handlinger som gjøres i kraft av å være blogger – altså hvor en penge/gavetransaksjon finner sted – er innafor å ha en mening om. Men respekt for Espen Hilton som etter kritikken har slettet insta-innleggene og beklaget seg. Det er lov å gjøre feil, men fint å kunne innrømme det og si unnskyld.
Haha det ble langt dette, men kjenner jeg er lei av all ansvarsfraskrivelsen store deler av blogg-Norge holder på med for tiden. Da er det fint å ha deg som er ditt ansvar bevisst! 🙂
Jeg er helt enig med deg, men klarer samtidig å sette meg litt inn i bloggerne sin frustrasjon. Det er jo ikke bare denne reisen de får kritikk for, det er alt de foretar seg hver eneste dag – for å sette det litt på spissen. Jeg sier ikke at det er riktig overhodet, men jeg kan til en viss grad forstå hvorfor enkelte beskytter seg selv ved å avskrive kritikk som hate og misunnelse. Får håpe at flere nå har innsett at det ikke nytter å slette/blokkere kritiske kommentarer, det popper bare opp andre steder 🙂 ha en fin tirsdag!
Jeg er ufattelig lei av dobbelmoralen til hele vesten.
JA, det er mye forferdelig i Dubai, men USA er absolutt ikke noe bedre. Jeg vil til og med påstå at Amerikanere og USA som stat er verre enn de fleste «trangsynte» muslimske land. Det at noen har en annen kultur, religion og synes det er ubehagelig når noen viser hud er HELT ok, akkurat som det er ok for deg å vise hud om du ønsker det. Tilbake til USA og hvorfor det er verre: Våpenkjøp, våpensalg, human trafficing, dop som er har blitt en epidemi blandt unge men som dem tjener miliarder på, dreper utallige mennesker hver eneste dag gjennom sine proxy-kriger, men vi STØTTER dem fordi vi har blitt indoktrinert av mediene deres, fordi de kamuflerer seg selv med at de er demokratiske og fordi de virker «kjent» for oss på grunn av de utallige Amerikanske seriene, filmene og generelt alle populære mediene vi har sett.
Hvorfor snakker vi ikke om hvordan vi daglig støtter bombing i Jemen, Palestina/Israel, Syria, Irak, osv, bare ved å kjøpe en Double Cheese på McDonalds.
Nordmenn er så ille flinke til å blåse opp en sak og kun snakke om dette fra ett synspunkt. Det er slik man blir trangsynt og dobbeltmoralsk av – når man absolutt ikke ser problemer ved andre ting man gjør.

Som mange nordmenn som bor i Dubai, er jeg overrasket over hvor kunnskap om Dubai og UAE og kritikk av landet er omvendt proporsjonalt. Det er mange området hvor landet ligger langt foran Norge. De har en transport infrastuktur som langt overgår Norge, ingen kriminalitet, lite narkotika. Det er antagelig også det best fungerende multikulturelle landet i verden hvor mennesker fra 200 nasjoner lever i fred med hverandre. Og når du skriver om fremmedarbeidere, som vi alle er, så er bildet ikke nødvendigvis som du beskriver.
Ikke at infrastrukturen har noe med menneskerettigheter å gjøre, men den er jo helt elendig i Dubai??
Hei Ida. Jeg forstår det ikke er så lett å forstå hva som er sannhet og ikke, men jeg tror ikke du skal være lei deg for å ha reist til Dubai. Sannheten er at enkelte norske media har en vandetta mot Dubai og sier mye som ikke er sant. Dubai er en av stedene i verden du kan føle deg tryggest. Dubai er et av få steder i verden hvor forskjellige religioner lever sammen i harmoni og det er religionsfrihet. Den største andelen av befolkningen er muslimer, men det er stor andel Kristne og Hiduister. Paven skal nå til Dubai og ha stor messe for den katolske delen av befolkningen. Arbeidsforholdene i Emiratene har blitt betraktelig bedre de siste 10 årene og det er streng arbeidslov/arbeidskontrakter som bedriftene må følge (Selvfølgelig er det bedrifter som ikke følger lovgivning akkurat som i Norge). Arbeidere i Dubai er stort sett veldig fornøyd (hvis du snakker med dem)med at de får sjansen å komme til et land hvor de tjener 10-20 ganger mer enn de gjør i landet de kommer fra og minstelønn er avtalt med mydighetene i de landene arbeiderne kommer fra. Arbeidsgiver må dekke lønn, kost, losji, hjemreise, feriepenger for arbeiderne. Man har strenge HMS regler på byggeplasser og arbeidsdagene er omtrent som i Norge… bildet vi får i Norsk media er et bilde av Dubai slik det var for 10-15 år siden, men mye har endret seg. Ja lovverket ligger litt etter hva vi har, men det er også i endring. Kvinner må ikke dekke seg til, men man kler seg (mann og kvinne) anstendig i offentlige rom. Husk at i Dubai så er ca kun 7-8 % lokale og er en stor grunn til at de ønsker å gå i sine lokale drakter (skaper identitet). Kvinner får en viktigere og viktigere rolle i landet, flere og flere kvinnelige regjeringsmedlemmer. Den største andelen som studerer er kvinner etc. etc.. Homofili er ikke lov i regelverket i mange land, men i Dubai er det ikke heksejakt på homofile og man ser ofte homofile i det offentlige rom. Det florerer av barer, nattklubber etc for homofile.
Så min anbefaling er fortsett å reis med god samvittighet. Dubai hadde aldri vært det landet det er i dag hadde det ikke vært for turisme og utlendinger som bosetter seg der og dette har bidratt til en sterk framgang når det gjelder lovverk, rettigheter etc.
Det du skriver er ikke helt riktig. Dubai har absolutt utviklet seg, men ikke i den grad du beskriver. Det har vært flere kritikkverdige saker de siste årene. Det blir veldig feil å si at Dubai var slik for 10-15 år siden. Det er feks ikke lenge siden en norsk kvinne ble fengslet, og fikk inndratt passet sitt etter å ha blitt voldtatt av en kollega. Dette er bare ett tilfelle. Det er helt ubestridt at det blir begått brudd på menneskerettighetene i Dubai hver dag.
Hei Ida, så bra skrevet! Mye å tenke på før man velger et feristed, mye å tenke på hva man kan spise, hva som er bra for miljøet, osv. Veldig vanskelig å leve «riktig» hele tiden. Man kan ha de beste intensjoner, ha gode meninger, men så er det vanskelig å leve opp til å gjøre ALT riktig. Så da må man noen ganger gjøre en innsats, mens andre ganger er man «bare» et menneske. Jeg vil aldri dra til Dubai pga. at det du skriver, men jeg drar til Miami og New York selv om de har dødstraff (jeg er imot dødsstraff!!) – og det til stadighet viser seg at folk sitter uskyldig dømt i fengsel (særlig svarte) – og blir henrettet selv om de var uskyldige. Veldig vanskelig dette….

Så fint innlegg, Ida! Jeg har tidligere utelukket emiratene ++ fra ferielista mi pga forholdene fremmedarbeiderne lever under, og synes det er kjempebra at flere bloggere begynner å skrive om dette. Ikke minst syns jeg det er imponerende gjort av deg å ta til deg ny kunnskap og skrive om dette til tross for at du har vært der 🙂
Jeg har aldri tenkt på å «boikotte» land som følge av hvordan regjeringen er – feks hvordan de behandler homofile/dødsstraff, etc. I så fall begynner det å bli ganske smalt med steder det er greit å reise til :/ Jeg kunne reist til Dubai om jeg bodde hjemme hos familie/venner, ettersom det for meg er verst å bo på hoteller jeg vet har blitt bygd av moderne slaver.
Kos deg uansett på Florida-tur! For min del blir det litt søkt å boikotte dem pga de har dødsstraff, men det er nå min mening 🙂

Er enig i at Dubai er et drittsted som man virkelig ikke burde reise til. Det er jo vanskelig å unngå land som bryter med menneskerettigheter og ellers opptrer uetisk. Norge sender selv mindreårige flyktninger til Afghanistan og selger kassert krigsmateriell til land vi ikke burde (og også haugevis av våpen til Saudi-Arabia), så pekefingeren kan vi også rette mot oss selv. Jeg tenker en god start er å være en opplyst turist og treffe valg man selv kan stå for. Mange av disse landene er 100 % avhengig av turismen og det finnes alltid bra folk man kan støtte. F.eks. ikke betal for photo ops med neddopede tigere i Thailand, men ta deg heller en tur til et rehabiliteringssenter for dyr, hvis det er det dyr ønsker å se. Dubai, Qatar og Saudi-Arabia skiller seg bare ut for meg, siden det er land som tjener seg styrtrike på slavehandel, undertrykkelse og krig. I Dubai er det enkelte år rapportert over 800 arbeidsrelaterte dødsfall blant fremmedarbeidere. Hvor kult er det med et billig luksushotell, når man vet at det er bygget av slaver som har ofret livet for din luksusferie? Man forventer at over 7.000 menneskeliv vil gå tapt for å bygge VM-arenaer til fotball-VM i Qatar i 2022. 7.000 mennesker for et fuckings VM!
Bli fast giver til Amnesty, klikk i vinkel når Norge samarbeider med disse drittlanda, gjør god research før reiser og bruk forbrukermakten til å legge pengene dine hos folk som fortjener det!

Hei Ida! 🙂 Jeg reiser til Dubai i morgen, og har kanskje av den grunn engasjert meg enda mer enn hva jeg normalt sett ville gjort i slike stormer av noen debatter. Jeg diskuterer omtrent aldri på nett, for Gud så slitsomt det hadde vært for både hodet og sinn..
Min mening om dette er at jeg synes det er fantastisk bra at det blir satt fokus på omstendighetene. Jeg mener man bør/MÅ snakke om slike forferdelige forhold, enten man vil eller ikke. Det er forhold jeg tror og håper ikke så veldig mange mennesker forener seg med, men allikevel må det snakkes om.
Men… og her kommer mitt «men»; Skal man boikotte alle land med undertrykkede regimer?
Jeg skal ikke nevne navn, men en ganske engasjert blogger har mildt sagt gått hardt ut mot disse influencerne som dro på denne sponsede turen. Blant annet skriver vedkommende at det er hårreisende å se at de ikke tar imot kritikk, når til og med Amnesty går ut med disse opplysningene om Dubai. Amnesty har selv skrevet «vi mener folk gjerne må dra til Dubai, men når man drar dit _med hensikt å kommunisere derfra_, følger det et ansvar om å også belyse skyggesidene». Og der er jeg HELT enig! Det jeg derimot synes blir ganske feil, er at vedkommende velger å gå ut med at «Amnesty sier sånn og sånn», når dette faktisk ikke er helt korrekt. Amnesty har aldri stått for #boikottdubai. Dette er vedkommendes egne meninger, og det er helt lov! Det jeg reagerer på, er hvordan vedkommende ordlegger seg på. Organisasjon blir nærmest brukt som et slags skjold, når Amnesty absolutt ikke har kommunisert og lagt fram det samme poenget….
Vedkommende skrev også senest i midten av 2018 at Cuba var et fantastisk reisemål. Et sted som faktisk kunne vært en potensiell plass for den fremtidige bryllupsreisen. «Et reisemål som fenger med sin historie og kultur, farger, smaker og rytmer». Men hva med akkurat Cuba? En regjering som fortsetter å undertrykke og straffe uenighet og offentlig kritikk. Menneskerettighetsforsvarere som blir arrestert. Reisebegrensninger, oppsigelser av ansatte – hva med dette? Om man velger å reise til Cuba – for å oppleve historie og kultur – vil man virkelig ha på sin kappe at en velger å støtte undertrykkelse?
Denne personen skrev også på samme tidspunkt at Israel var på listen over drømmereisemål. Er man med dette partisk i Palestina-Israel konflikten? Eller hva med USA – Støtter man dødsstraff om man reiser ned dit? Eller styrer man da bevisst unna de statene som holder seg unna nettopp dette? Dette er legitime spørsmål å stille. Eller fra et politisk ståsted – tar en side med Trump kun fordi man velger å ta turen til statene?
Jeg har reist flere ganger til USA. Jeg har også bodd der. Jeg liker ikke Donald Trump – men jeg liker USA. Er ikke det lov? Jeg synes også derfor dette blir et spørsmål å stille: Vi som ikke støtter forholdene som skjer i Dubai, blant annet fengsling av homofile – Kan vi av den grunn ikke like Dubai?
Jeg mener ikke at man skal slutte å sette søkelys på disse forholdene. Jeg mener det er bra. Det jeg stusser på, er måten det helt blir fremstilt på. Et hysteri! En sak har alltid mer enn en side, alltid. Jeg tror at de som velger å reise til Dubai, drar dit for å få en fin ferie. Jeg kan ikke forstå hvordan dette kan være galt? Man kan si at det er egoistisk – og da blir jo svaret ja. Men er det noen som reiser på ferie som ikke selv har lyst til å gjøre det? Da er vel alle reisende egoister..

Hvor kan man reise da, om man ikke skal støtte det en ikke liker? Kan amnesty finne meg ett ferieparadis, med strand og gode hoteller, fine og rene gater hvor
A) ingen i landet er korrupte
B) ingen har blitt eller kan bli utsatt for forfølgelse, tortur eller havne i fengsel uten en god og gjennomtenkt dom
C) grusomme diktatur
D) ingen politikere som er litt for maktsyke og har en holdning som ikke ligner grisen, et kvinnesyn til å bli mørkeredd av og et syn på innvandring som er rett og slett farlig
E) selvfølgelig skal det være billig for meg å dra
F) ingen kjente problemer med narkotika, trafficking eller mafia/karteller
G) riskiko for terror, krig eller borgerkrig
H) ikke har ett velferdssystem som hjelper fattige eller mennesker med ulike handikapp
I) ikke trives nasjonalsport på tortur av dyr; hunder, haner osv.
J) noen form for slavearbeid; jobb under umenneskelige forhold, lønn under ett akseptabelt nivå, misbruk av arbeidskraft, umenneskelig arbeidstid
Jeg tror ikke det er ett land i verden som kan komme på en liste over nasjoner som blir «godkjent».
Ja, en liker ikke noe av det over. Og man vil i all fall ikke støtte det, i all fall vi fra vesten. Men om man tenker slik bør han heller ikke reise. Ikke en gang til Tyrkia.

50 kr for en liten boks cola? Det kan umulig vært på en vanlig dagligvareforretning. Der koster den rundt 3 AED..
Migrantarbeidere som utgjør 90% av arbeidsstyrken blir utsatt for overgrep? Veldig vage tall av Amnesty. Hvilket land i verden begås ikke overgrep mot arbeidstakere (spesielt lavere stillinger). Også i Norge. Det er forbudt for arbeidsgivere og agency å ta passet fra arbeidstakere i Dubai. Greia er at det ikke har blitt slått ned på av myndighetene før inntil noen år siden etter at det ble fokus på det.
En fremmedarbeider fra Pakistan og India tjener uendelig mer i Dubai enn der de kommer fra. Kjøper du feks klær fra Kina? Hva tjener de der..
Homofili forbudt? Har du vært i Mauritius, Malaysia, Singapore eller kanskje på Barbados? Der er det også forbudt.
Grove krigsforbrytelser i Yemen? Norge slapp nesten 600 bomber over Libya. Med mange sivile drepte. For hva? Er ikke vi også krigsforbrytere?
Poenget mitt er at det finnes mange land der ute som ikke er perfekte. Som ikke følger basis menneskeretter. Men du forandrer ikke landene ved å boikotte de. Med vesten og turistenes innvirkning har Dubai og Emiratene gradvis forbedret og forandret seg. Du skal ikke mange år tilbake da kvinner som viste bare skuldre på kjøpesentrene der fikk tilsnakk og bedt om å kle på seg. Det skjer aldri mer. Et banalt eksempel. Men det viser et samfunn i forandring. Som tilpasser seg oss… Men boikotter vi landet og ingen reiser dit. Vil de bare trekke seg tilbake i hulene sine, slik de gjør i Saudi, og da er vi tilbake til scratch.
Så jeg synes absolutt du bør fortsette å reise til Dubai.
At dere først begynner å reflektere etter å ha besøkt / reklamert får et regime. Som undertrykker sine kvinner og fremmedarbeidere som arbeider på slave kontrakter. Dreper de som er kritiske til regimet. Skal dere påberope dere en stemme i offentlig- heten. Så burde dere iallefall følge litt med i hva som skjer i verden.
